This continues from 10 pages of MFRA councillors’ expense claims for car mileage, tolls, parking and taxis.

Below are ten A4 pages of expense claims submitted by councillors on Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority for the 2014/15 financial year. It’s pages ten to twenty of eighty-nine pages and each thumbnail below should link to a more high-definition (and therefore readable) image for each page.

The councillors these pages are for are Cllr Leslie T Byrom, Cllr Steve Niblock, Cllr Ted Grannell, Cllr Peter Brennan, Cllr Ray Halpin, Cllr Roy Gladden and Cllr Sharon Sullivan.

HQ stand for headquarters, Perf & Scrut means Performance and Scrutiny Committee, Comm Safety and Prot means Community Safety and Protection Committee and TDA refers to Training and Development Academy.

Interestingly the claim by Cllr Sharon Sullivan isn’t signed by her, but someone else on her behalf.

    1. Did you mean must want more not “much want more”?

Many more pages to go on this one (fortunately I picked a public body with only 18 councillors!)

However why isn’t this sort of story something that the local newspapers do or another part of the local media?

The main reason I can think of is the time consuming nature of it. To give an indication of how long it takes:

      (a) a trip there and back to MFRS HQ (in total 2 car journeys, 4 trains and about 40 minutes of walking) with a camera and tripod to inspect the pages (being told at the time you inspect you’re not allowed to take them away even though photocopies have been created for the sole purpose of the inspection and the Monitoring Officer insisting before you get a chance to see anything that you sign a piece of paper that you won’t take any away with you),

      (b) taking a photo of the pages

      (c) transferring the photo from the camera to the laptop

      (d) compressing the image and creating a thumbnail

      (e) uploading the images to the blog and linking the thumbnail to the high resolution image

      (f) writing a blog post including the above and publishing it

I could write more about the expenses issue but I’d probably come across as feeling rather cross about the issue. Obviously there are more serious issues that Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service/Merseyside Fire & Rescue Authority face than the cost of democracy, but I think what angers people is that this has only happened for so long due to the lack of transparency. Weirdly the TV was saying “bloodsuckers” just as I wrote that.

Personally I think “bloodsuckers” is probably rather harsh comment about politicians claiming expenses (although some people may this otherwise)!

  1. G’day John

Post Stuart Kelly is there any decency left at Wallasey.

    Ooroo

    James

Give my regards to Clowncillor Doughnut the lowest possible life form next time you see him John.

    1. If you’re missing Stuart Kelly he has a Twitter account (I realise that doesn’t answer your first question).

I won’t be passing on your regards to “Clowncillor Doughnut” as it will probably be over a week till I next see him by which time I’ll have forgotten about this comment.
