I’ll declare an interest in the piece below as I will have a vote in the election of a councillor in Bidston and St James ward as will my wife Leonora.

As Wirral Council has published the notices of election on its website, those wishing to be a candidate have until 4 pm on Friday 6th April 2018 to deliver nomination papers by hand to the Electoral Services Office, Ground Floor, Wallasey Town Hall, Seacombe, CH44 8ED.

Due to the recent resignation by John Hales as a councillor in Hoylake and Meols ward, people in Hoylake and Meols will be electing two councillors this year and receive two votes.

In the other twenty-one wards on the Wirral (Bebington, Bidston and St James, Birkenhead and Tranmere, Bromborough, Clatterbridge, Claughton, Eastham, Greasby, Frankby and Irby, Heswall, Leasowe and Moreton East, Liscard, Moreton West and Saughall Massie, New Brighton, Oxton, Pensby and Thingwall, Prenton, Rock Ferry, Seacombe, Upton, Wallasey and West Kirby and Thurstaston) people will be electing one councillor and receive one vote. Although that list may seem like twenty-two wards, Greasby, Frankby and Irby is only one ward.

Polling stations (assuming more than one candidate in each ward submits a valid set of nomination papers) will be open on Thursday 3rd May 2018.

If you need to register to vote in this election, the deadline to do so if you wish to take part in this election is by Tuesday 17th April 2018.

Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must be made to the Electoral Registration Officer by 5.00 pm on Wednesday 18th April 2018.

Applications to vote by proxy must be made by Wednesday 25th April 2018.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy (whether on grounds of physical incapacity or for work or service reasons) must be made by 5.00 pm on 3rd May 2018. However in order to qualify either the physical incapacity must have occurred after 5.00 pm on Wednesday 25th April 2018 or the person must have been made aware that for work or service reasons they cannot attend the polling station in person after this date and time.

The results of the election of 23 councillors are expected to be announced on Friday 4th May 2018.

  1. Hi John,

Do you know which Labour candidate is standing in Seacombe yet?

I need to know who will be causing me to spoil my ballot paper.

    Thanks in advance.
