Happy New Year! So what were the ten most watched videos on this blog’s Youtube channel in 2018 (by minutes viewed)?

10 In reverse order, number ten was a video of Liverpool City Council filmed on the 14th November 2018. Jean Luc Courcoult and Royal De Luxe (the artistic director and company behind the Giants) were in that order added to the Freedom Roll of Association or awarded Freedom of the City.

9 Number nine was a video clip of a public meeting of the Birkenhead Constituency Committee filmed on the 1st March 2018 at the Wirral Deen Centre. Roughly half of the clip is a series of questions asked by the public mainly to Cllr Phil Davies about Hoylake Golf Resort and related issues. I published a short piece about what the public meeting was about (including copies of the questions) headlined What happened at the Birkenhead Constituency Committee public meeting held at the Wirral Deen Centre on the 1st March 2018?

This clip covers the end of public questions and questions on a variety of issues from backbench councillors to councillors who are on the Cabinet.

6 A public meeting of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in November 2018 (which featured a trial of better microphones) saw a decision on accepting funding for homelessness services, updates on air quality, High Speed 2 and the Northern Powerhouse as well as a presentation by Cllr Phil Davies (who is the Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Growth, Economic Development, Digital and Innovation).

5 From the same meeting as the clip at number seven above, number five is a clip of the last meeting of all Wirral Council councillors held in December. This clip covers a personal statement by Cllr Moira McLaughlin on why she left the Labour Party and most of the many questions asked by the public at this meeting.

2 The second most watched clip in 2018 was this clip of a public meeting of Liverpool City Council on 19th September 2018. The reason for the high number of views is that it was widely shared on social media due to a speech by Mayor Joe Anderson on the Trans Community Motion following public speakers for and against the motion.

1 However the most watched clip in 2018 (because of the coverage by other media outlets) was a short video clip of around 8 minutes of Leonora (whom I’m married to) being issued with a fixed penalty notice (which was later cancelled) in West Kirby on the 3rd May 2018.

2018 was also the year that Wirral Council started filming around half their public meetings themselves starting on the 14th May 2018.

So I wonder what will happen on these issues in 2019?
