Today’s meeting of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority’s Joint Fire & Police Collaboration Committee was attended by three councillors from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority and also Jane Kennedy (the Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside) to discuss collaboration between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police.

The Chair Cllr Les Byrom asked Deputy Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle to give a verbal update to those present on collaboration in various areas between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police. He explained that although he was new in post, he had been present at a meeting where the ten areas of collaborative work had been discussed and gave examples of shared estates and training.

Jane Kennedy made a number of comments and asked a number of questions. She also spoke about the problems, issues with Airwave and the Emergency Services Network.

The Committee agreed to a report to its next meeting (scheduled for 2nd July 2019) on collaborative work.

The Chair also referred at the end of the meeting (see above video) to the recent news that Jane Kennedy had decided not to stand for re-election once her term of office as Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside ends in May 2020. He thanked her for her time on the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority and referred to her as a “hard act to follow”.
