Wirral Council’s Cabinet meeting 27th June 2016 (item 9 Domestic Refuse Collection Outline Business Case starts at 25 minutes 21 seconds)

Wirral Council Cabinet meeting at Birkenhead Town Hall Thursday 12th March 2015 Left to right Surjit Tour, Cllr Phil Davies and Joe Blott
Cllr Phil Davies (centre) chairs Wirral Council’s Cabinet who will decide whether to change green bin collections later this year

When I read the Wirral Globe article about the proposed changes to bin collections (which may include a new food waste collection and possibly changes to the green bin collection) that have been delayed, I remembered that I received invoices from Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (also known as Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority) earlier this week.

Wirral Council have the legal responsibility for collecting rubbish from households on the Wirral (which they do through a contract with Biffa), but Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority then deal with what to do with the rubbish (and charge a levy to Wirral Council and other local councils).

Earlier this year, during the 30 working day period when you can do so, I requested copies of 275 invoices paid by Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority over the last financial year (2016-17).

Out of the invoices supplied electronically, one was missing and one was a duplicate. I flagged this up with Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority and have since been supplied with the correct invoices.

This is invoice 186 (that was missing originally from what I was sent).

This is invoice 67 (that was originally duplicated with a different invoice already supplied.

The invoices are supplied in batches of fifty due to file size limits on emails. One of the invoices is for MWDA’s share for this study by Local Partnerships which included Wirral. At Wirral Council’s Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee last month it was stated that changes to Wirral’s waste collection were on hold while a regional study was being finished.

  1. We have food waste collected from where i work, we pay to have it picked up and the firm that collects it turns it in to fuel which it then sells. Now thats how you make money! you get paid twice!

    1. Sounds like a good business model for the business as it diversifies their income streams.

However, if food waste collections were introduced on Wirral, I’d have to check the contract to see if Wirral would receive money for it, whether the benefit to Wirral is just from having more waste recycled or if there is any financial benefit whether that ends up going to Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority.

  2. G’day John

Bring on the Commonwealth Games to Merseyside.

    Are you avin a laugh.

In that rubbish paper from over Kev and Stella’s Stinking Stagnant wirral Waters

Bring in non-political ADMINISTRATION for Merseyside.

    1. When we were transferring from a bus at Queens Square bus station to a train at Liverpool Lime Street on Saturday afternoon we saw the queues around St Georges Hall for the Hope and Glory Festival.

The bus we were on went past it, so we saw the stage, food stalls and fencing round St Johns Gardens.

  3. G’day John

Photo shoot alert! Photo shoot alert!

In their ex-rubbish local propaganda sheet

    Something about loving Liscard.

Must be awfully close to Kev and Stella’s Stinking Stagnant wirral Waters.

Her who dies her roots black from The Chamber Pot.

First time for ages standing next to her boss the “Stinking Ashtray” they are usually in different positions.

He is standing directly on her left and looking well.

For a stinking nicotine ridden liar.

Another shot of her for my dunny wall.

See the lib dem bloke over Kev and Stella’s Stinking Stagnant wirral Waters is demanding answers from a report into the cancelled concert of Uncle Joes chaos company.

Pity the lib dems next to Kev and Stella’s Stinking Stagnant wirral Waters are led by that old fool that can’t comb his hair or is to tired to shave and well past his use by date can’t demand answers about the Beverley Edwards Report, The Grant (ChocolateTeapot) Thornton Report, The Dave Garry ha ha Report or the DCLG Report into Wirral “Funny” Bizz, BIG, ISIS and Working Neighbourhoods debacle that “Philly Liar” still claims to be successful.

“Phil the Very Very Very Very Slimy, Elusive and Deluded LYING Dill” has him and Green by the short and curlies.

    Says everything.

Is it just coincidence John that where the federal government is one (useless) party that locally it is the other side stuffing everything for everyone except them?

Both parties are happy and the public pay.

    1. Ahh the cancelled second day of the Hope and Glory Festival over in Liverpool?

On the subject of BIG and ISUS I thought Nigel was busy demanding answers (or at least some openness about the whole matter) through freedom of information requests?

We don’t have a federal government here in the UK, just the combination of the Houses of Parliament (House of Commons (HoC) (on holiday), House of Lords (HoL) (on holiday)) and the Queen.
