Ged Fitzgerald (Former Chief Executive, Liverpool City Council) is on bail after being arrested last year

Regular readers of this blog will remember a story last year about the arrest of former Liverpool Chief Executive Ged Fitzgerald on suspicion of both conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and witness intimidation.

Since his arrest, the Administrative Court (part of the High Court) had been asked for permission for judicial review of the search warrant, Ged Fitzgerald’s arrest and his short detention after his arrest before he was bailed.

The request for permission for judicial review went to a hearing on the 20th December 2017 and a decision resulting from that hearing refusing permission for judicial review was published last month on the 18th April 2018 ([2018] EWHC 804 (Admin)).

In the decision, in paragraph 22 discussing the application for a search warrant to Preston Crown Court (Operation Sheridan is the Lancashire Police investigation) it is stated,

“The application explained that Operation Sheridan had widened to include alleged criminality within Liverpool City Council and the Merseyside Pension Fund ('MPF').”

As regular readers of this blog will know Wirral Council is the Administering Authority for the Merseyside Pension Fund.
