What’s in the candidate’s consent to nomination for the Labour candidates for the election of a councillor to Liverpool City Council in 2019 for Allerton and Hunts Cross, Belle Vale and Old Swan wards?

Below are three completed candidate’s consent to nomination for the Liverpool City Council elections in 2019.

Interestingly (compared to the Wirral candidate’s consent to nomination) Liverpool City Council pre-fill in a number of fields and options.

On the Wirral version of the form there’s an option “of the county/district/London borough of”. Some candidates correctly delete county and London borough of, others don’t complete this part (but Wirral still classes it as a valid nomination).

On the Liverpool City Council version, there is no option for candidates at this point and this part of the form reads “of the district of”.

The district of Liverpool is also pre-filled.

This isn’t the case on the Wirral one and some candidates (or agents) have incorrectly not written in Wirral initially in the district, but the ward they’re standing in where Wirral is and Wirral where the ward name should be. Then it’s had to be crossed out, signed and done the correct way round when the candidate’s consent to nomination has been informally checked. Whereas at Liverpool City Council prefilling Liverpool in the district field prevents this sort of confusion.

The qualifications part of this form, date of birth, candidate signature, date of consent, witness signature and witness name are all simpler for people to understand as there are less mistakes made in this part.

From memory I think there’s also a legal requirement in the election rules as to when the signature of the candidate can be witnessed.

The candidate’s consent to nomination below are for the following three candidates:-

1. BRENNAN, Peter standing in Old Swan for the Labour Party
2. CONNOR, Sharon standing in Allerton & Hunts Cross for the Labour Party
3. THOMPSON, Helen standing in Belle Vale for the Labour Party
