At the start I will declare a financial interest in that my household pays council tax to Wirral Council.

The Liverpool Echo carries the news today that Steve Rotheram’s budget (if agreed by the Combined Authority at its public meeting on the 1st Feburary 2019) will from the 1st April 2019 result in increased council tax for both Wirral residents and other residents across the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority area.

At the moment council tax for Wirral residents contains three main elements, an amount to Wirral Council, an amount that goes to the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority (to fund Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service) and an amount that is decided by the Merseyside Police and Crime Panel (to fund Merseyside Police).

The proposed yearly levels according to the Liverpool Echo for the Combined Authority for 2019-20 are below:

Band A £12.67

Band B £14.78

Band C £16.89

Band D £19.00

Band E £23.22

Band F £27.44

Band G £31.67

Band H £38.00

Wirral Council’s representative on the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cllr Phil Davies stated at a public meeting of Wirral Council on the 19th November 2015 to discuss the devolution deal with government that created the current Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, “I think this is a good deal for Wirral, it’s a good deal for our residents and I ask everybody to support it thank you.”
