Wirral Council’s Cabinet will be asked next Monday morning to approve recommendations that include consulting residents on an annual charge for parking permits for those that live in the following resident parking scheme areas:

  • Clifton Park, Birkenhead
  • Tranmere Rovers
  • Prenton (Woodchurch Road)
  • Woodchurch (Arrowe Park)
  • Silverburn Avenue (Moreton)
  • Barnston Lane, Moreton
  • Liscard
  • Karslake Road, Poulton

Wirral Council already charge a £10 annual charge to residents in resident parking scheme areas that have been created since 2007.

An estimated 14,000 permits have been issued to residents in the eight areas above. If a charge is brought in after consultation, it is expected to be around £20 to £25 a year. If a charge is introduced in the areas that are now free, it is expected that the permit charge in the areas now charged £10 a year will also rise to the same level.

The report to Cabinet and the Scrutiny Review can both be read on Wirral Council’s website.

This decision was deferred from the Cabinet meeting held on the 4th September 2017. The councillor who is Cabinet Member for this area (Highways and Transport) is Cllr Stuart Whittingham, who can be emailed at stuartwhittingham@wirral.gov.uk.

Cabinet will meet in public next Monday morning (6th November 2017) starting at 10.00 am in Committee Room 1 at Wallasey Town Hall, Seacombe, CH44 8ED.

  1. Existing £14000.00 proposed £350000.00 the Wirral resident or the Wirral “CASH COWS” are being milked. Going out to consultation “MY A@@E” it will happen mark my words. I bet none of our councillors will be effected. At least it will go some way to pa the councillors allowances.

    1. Thanks for your comment John.

I don’t know if any of the 66 councillors live in areas that are covered by residents parking schemes.

  2. If any one pays this, they need their heads reading, we pay enough money to the council as it is, its them that waste it on dumb idears like gofe courses

    1. You are right that people already pay council tax to Wirral Council.

So for services that are free (that Wirral Council is considering charging for), people do wonder why they have to pay once through council tax and again when they use them.
