Wirral Council’s Cabinet agree 150 year lease for fire station in Saughall Massie

Wirral Council’ Cabinet this morning agreed to a 150 year lease to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority of land it owns in Saughall Massie for a new fire station.
During the meeting, Cllr Phil Davies referred to a petition opposing the lease started by Cllr Chris Blakeley (who is a councillor for the area concerned).
Cllr Phil Davies disagreed with the numbers of people supporting the petition and turned down a request from Cllrs Blakeley, Berry and Williams to refuse Cabinet’s consent to enter into the lease.
Planning permission (APP/17/00306) had already been granted by Wirral Council for the new fire station earlier this year in August.
The lease between Wirral Council and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority won’t be entered into until the Cabinet minutes have been published and a period for councillors to “call-in” the decision has expired. If six or more councillors “call-in” the decision then it will be reviewed first by councillors on one of Wirral Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committees.
