15,033 people sign petition opposed to proposals for banning dogs on Wirral’s beaches and parks

                                                    

Yesterday evening, Cllr Chris Blakeley presented a petition on behalf of Wirral Good Dogs and Peaceful Protest Wirral Dogs Ban of 15,033 people opposed to Wirral Council’s proposals to ban dogs from parts of Wirral’s beaches and parks.

Wirral Council’s consultation on the Dog Control Public Spaces Protection Orders ends on Sunday 15th July 2018.

Cabinet Member for the Environment Cllr Matthew Patrick was asked later during the same public meeting to drop proposals for the Dog Control Public Spaces Protection Orders. In reply to a question, Cllr Matthew Patrick said, “We’re currently in consultation asking what the Wirral people what they think about the plans and we’re going to keep asking the people of Wirral what they think about the plans until the 15th July. Then we’ll be analysing those.

I don’t see how, on some of those aspects that you talk about increasing the overall fine for dog fouling from £50 to £100. You think that’s unacceptable and disgusting? If there are issues like that people need to be fined, I think if there are people walking away after their dog has fouled we’ll respond. Any part of the Wirral I don’t think that’s acceptable.

So, I think actually parts of the proposals have support from lots of people but we’ve had some really interesting responses to the consultation. I’ve tried to do this completely fairly, asked everybody their views including all councillors.”
