Continues from Cllr Lesley Rennie refers to proposed Saughall Massie fire station site in green belt as “a piece of scrappy land”.
CLLR JEAN STAPLETON (Lead Member for Finance, Assets and Efficiencies) representing Wirral Council: I would definitely go with the Chief’s recommendation and I concur with Councillor Rennie but I would suggest also Lesley you might have a word with your colleagues in West Wirral because there’s an opportunity for them here to show some political leadership in the community to help them, I hate to say but get their priorities right for humanity’s sake!
To weigh up humanity against the scrappy piece of land is really not an option is it really? It should be easy for people to make the right decision now and I would suggest that there is an opportunity for politicians in west Wirral to get their priorities right for the sake of the residents that they represent.

CLLR TONY ROBERTSON (representing Sefton Council): Thanks Chair, again I think I’d like to say that I think we’re going in the right direction here but I speak as an environmental campaigner who’s spent an awful lot of my time trying to prevent green belt development.
I’ve been doing it for weeks on end recently and not necessarily very successfully either but that’s a different story. What I’m concerned about here is that I think I’m hearing a special circumstance and life and limb clearly is a special circumstance.
So I think there is every reason for us to be able to put forward a credible argument for the use of this site whereas the vast majority of the time my immediate reaction to building on green belt is ‘no under any circumstances’ but I think life and limb are special circumstances so it has my support.
