Councillors on Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority face decision on 2.99% council tax increase proposal

The eighteen councillors on the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority will be meeting in public on Thursday 22nd February (starting at 1.00 pm) in the Liverpool Suite, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Headquarters, Bridle Road, Bootle, L30 4YD to decide on a proposed 2.99% increase to council tax from 2018-19 (starting from the 1st April 2018).

Currently the element of council tax for residents that goes towards the running of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for 2017-18 on an annual basis is:

2017-18 (Council Tax – fire element (Wirral))

Band A – £49.56
Band B – £57.82
Band C – £66.08
Band D – £74.34
Band E – £90.86
Band F – £107.38
Band G – £123.90
Band H – £148.68

2018-19 (Council Tax – fire element (Wirral) estimated based on proposed 2.99% increase)

Band A – £51.04 (+ £1.48 or + 2.90%)
Band B – £59.55 (+ £1.73 or + 2.99%)
Band C – £68.05 (+ £1.97 or + 2.98%)
Band D – £76.56 (+ £2.22 or + 2.99%)
Band E – £93.57 (+ £2.71 or + 2.98%)
Band F – £110.59 (+ £3.21 or + 2.99%)
Band G – £127.60 (+ £3.70 or + 2.99%)
Band H – £153.12 (+ £4.44 or + 2.99%)

The four Wirral Council councillors on Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority are Cllr Brian Kenny (Labour), Cllr Chris Meaden (Labour), Cllr Lesley Rennie (Conservative) and Cllr Jean Stapleton (Labour).

At the moment Labour have political control of the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority with 16 of the 18 councillors being from the Labour Party.
