Award of Litter Enforcement Contract to Kingdom by Wirral Council to be reviewed following request by Lib Dem and Green councillors

In an update to an earlier story published on this blog headlined Kingdom awarded further 3 year contract by Wirral Council for litter and dog fouling fines, six councillors (the sole Green Party councillor Cllr Pat Cleary and five Liberal Democrat councillors) have “called-in” the decision.

Award of the contract is now put on hold until there is a special public meeting of Wirral Council’s Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee to look again at the decision. The meeting has to be held within 15 working days of the request to review the decision. The Committee has 9 Labour councillors, 5 Conservative councillors and 1 Liberal Democrat councillor.

The councillors on the Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee are (this list doesn’t include deputies that can be sent if these people below can’t make it to a meeting) Cllr Tony Jones (Chair), Cllr Steve Foulkes (Vice-Chair), Cllr Kate Cannon, Cllr Tony Cottier, Cllr Sharon Jones, Cllr Brian Kenny, Cllr Christina Muspratt, Cllr Tony Smith, Cllr Warren Ward, Cllr Adam Sykes (Conservative spokesperson), Cllr Bruce Berry, Cllr Tony Cox, Cllr Gerry Ellis, Cllr Andrew Hodson and Cllr Allan Brame (Liberal Democrat spokesperson).

A protest is being held on Saturday 30th June 2018 between 10.00 am and 10.30 am outside Wilko Birkenhead in Europa Square (Birkenhead Town Centre) by those opposed to Kingdom being granted a further three-year contract for litter enforcement.
