UPDATED by JB on 24.5.19 to correct spelling of pâté

Yesterday’s public meeting of Wirral Council saw outgoing Mayor Cllr Geoffrey Watt (pictured above) leave and incoming Mayor Cllr Tony Smith start his term of office. Cllr George Davies is Deputy Civic Mayor this year.

In this age of food banks, I thought a list of the food served to over a hundred “distinguished guests” present should be made public. The catering was done this year by Wirral Metropolitan College.

Canapés (these were served from 5.50 pm at the top of the central stairs and the Mayor’s Parlour)

Chicken liver pâté tartlet
Smoked salmon mousse tartlet
Goat’s cheese and spinach tartlet (vegetarian)
Honey and mustard sausages
Flute with mushroom duxelle (vegetarian)
Flute with tomato and onion reduction (vegetarian)

Main course (served at approximately 8.15 pm)

Poached salmon, salad, dill and herb creme brouche sauce
Bowls of buttered new potatoes
Roasted vegetables and halloumi cheese

Sweets (served at approximately 9.15 pm)

Bakewell tart
Meringue
