Refusal by Planning Committee for Wallasey Village Tesco Store is appealed
In August 2013, Wirral Council’s Planning Committee refused an application for a Tesco in Wallasey Village by 11 votes to 2. An appeal against the Planning Committee’s decision has been accepted by the Planning Inspectorate but it’ll be months before the Planning Inspectorate come to a final decision.

An appeal by Tesco was very much to be expected and comes as no surprise at all. Every Little Helps (from the Secretary of State?) and can you guess who is likely to win and have it their own way? So much for localism…. unfortunately and rather cynically I predict Tesco of course. Don’t forget as I stated earlier….. Every Little Helps!
If you remember the Tesco decision in Noctorum was appealed too, but was upheld as it would’ve led to the local Post Office closing. Sadly the reasons given by the Planning Committee for refusing the Wallasey Village Tesco are more subjective, so the decision by the Planning Inspector who has to weigh up the arguments from both parties is less clear cut then the Noctorum decision.
