The Merseyside Waste and Recycling Authority met on the 6th February 2015 with most of the meeting being about agreeing next year’s budget and financial matters.

As part of the meeting changes to the application process for this year’s Community Fund were agreed. The Merseyside Waste and Recycling Authority last year awarded £10,000 to Tomorrow’s Women Wirral for refurbishment of their Birkenhead base using recycled materials and £9,064 to Wirral Change’s “Too Good to Waste” project.

This year Merseyside Waste and Recycling Authority will be asking organisations who wish to apply to the Community Fund for expressions of interest and further information will be available on this page from the 10th February. Councillors will then decide based on the expressions of interest received which organisations will be asked to send in a full application to the Community Fund.

People at the meeting also heard about a new temporary site for Liverpool residents to recycle materials that will run to the 6th March 2015 at the fruit and vegetable market off Prescot Road in the L13 postcode area. The temporary site is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 10am to 2pm and will accept paper, cardboard, cans, glass bottles and jars, textiles and clothes, plastic bottles & rigid plastics.

Councillors also heard an update on progress on the Old Swan site in Liverpool. The Merseyside Waste and Disposal Authority was still waiting for a licence before demolition of buildings could take place. A lease also needed to be agreed before construction could start. If these weren’t in place before the 1st March, construction would be put back to August because of the nesting season.
