Due to the resignation of former Councillor Sarah Spoor (her term of office ended on 7th June 2021), a byelection has been called in Liscard ward (election of one councillor to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council) to fill the vacant seat.

A notice of election has been published today (nominations close at 4 pm on Friday 25th June 2021).

As a result of the election all comments during the election period will be subject to moderation before publication on this blog. A copy of the Notice of Election is below.

Whoever is elected as a result of the election will be elected to the end of former Councillor Spoor’s previous term of office (May 2023).


Notice of Election of a Councillor for the Liscard ward
Notice is hereby given that:

  1. An election is to be held of A COUNCILLOR for the LISCARD Ward.
  2. Forms of nomination paper may be obtained from the Electoral Services Office, Wirral Tennis Centre, Valley Road, Bidston CH41 7EJ during normal office hours, or downloaded from the Electoral Commission website
  3. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Electoral Services Office, Wirral Tennis Centre, Valley Road, Bidston CH41 7EJ during normal office hours, on any working day from the date of publication of this notice, but no later than 4pm on Friday, 25th June 2021.
  4. The poll will take place on Thursday, 22 July 2021
  5. Applications to be included in the register of electors must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Wirral Tennis Centre, Valley Road, Bidston CH41 7EJ by Tuesday, 6 July 2021. Applications can be made online, up to 11.59pm on Tuesday 6th July 2021 at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
  6. New applications, amendments, or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Wirral Tennis Centre, Valley Road, Bidston CH41 7EJ by 5pm on Wednesday, 7th July 2021.
  7. Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Wirral Tennis Centre, Valley Road, Bidston CH41 7EJ by 5pm on Wednesday, 14th July 2021.
  8. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Wirral Tennis and Sports Centre, Valley Road, Bidston, Birkenhead, CH41 7EJ by 5pm on Thursday 22nd July 2021.
