Liverpool, always the home of progressivism had suffered a bit of a setback to its revolutionary verve of late and a public meeting of Liverpool City Council’s Environment and Climate Change Select Committee happened like a Balzacian play about the Ancien Régime set in the time of the French Revolution (indeed one suggestion made during the meeting was for a citizens’ assembly).

Labour gain one seat (Birkenhead) on the Wirral but Conservatives win majority of seats in 2019 General Election
Here are the general election results declared early on the 13th December 2019 for the four constituencies on the Wirral in alphabetical order by constituency.
Birkenhead
Mick Whitley was elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Birkenhead with 24,990 votes. Frank Field (Birkenhead Social Justice Party) came second with 7,285 votes. Third was Claire Michelle Rowles (Conservative) with 5,540 votes.
