What’s the timetable for the Upton by-election of a councillor to Wirral Council?
Due to the resignation of Matthew Patrick (pictured above) as he has taken up a job in London there will be a by-election of one councillor in Upton ward to Wirral Council.
Whoever is elected following the election will serve the remainder of Matthew Patrick’s term of office (until May 2020).
The closing date for nomination papers is by 4pm tomorrow (26th October 2018). The list of candidates is expected to be published by 4pm on Monday 29th October 2018 on Wirral Council’s website.
If there is more than one candidate, a poll will take place on Thursday 22nd November 2018 (polling stations will be open on polling day between 7am and 10pm).
Those living in Upton Ward wanting to vote who are not registered to vote need to apply to vote by Tuesday 6th November 2018 and applications to register to vote can be made online.
New applications for postal votes, amendments to existing postal votes or cancellation of postal votes need to be made by 5pm on Wednesday 7th November 2018*.
Applications to vote by proxy need to be made by 5pm on Wednesday 14th November 2018 and applications to vote by emergency proxy (for example on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work or service reasons) need to be made by 5pm on Thursday 22nd November 2018*.
* these need to be made to the Electoral Registration Officer, Wallasey Town Hall, Brighton Street, Seacombe, CH44 8ED.
The result of the election are expected late on 22nd November 2018 or on 23rd November 2018.
