The Chair of Liverpool City Council’s Social Care and Health Select Committee Cllr Richard McLinden explained near the start of the public meeting that the Committee doesn’t really have Powerpoint presentations as presentations aren’t really scrutiny, but that if there was a presentation alongside a written report it would be a maximum of 6-8 slides.

Well it’s that time of year again for my review of Wirral Council’s Statement of Accounts for 2018-19 which this year comes in at 216 pages (the accounts not this review).

I’d also like to point out that this year the Bureau of Investigative Journalism Bureau Local Network are running a pilot project on inspecting local authority accounts.

The results of the European Parliamentary Elections in the Northwest England region were announced last week and were as follows:-

Brexit Party (3 seats) – Claire Fox, Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen, David Bull
Liberal Democrats (2 seats) – Chris Davies, Jane Brophy
Labour (2 seats) – Julie Ward, Theresa Griffin
Green (1 seat) – Gina Dowding

The Conservative Party, UKIP, Change UK, English Democrat, UK EU and two independent candidates failed to win any seats in this region.

The eight elected Members of the European Parliament will take up their seats on 2nd July 2019.

This weekend saw the River Festival return over the two days of the weekend in Liverpool (as well as a much smaller River Festival on the Wirral side of the River Mersey).

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Rt Hon Prime Minister Theresa May announced her resignation as Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party effective from the 7th June 2019 in a televised speech outside 10 Downing Street on Friday.

Her resignation triggered a leadership election in the Conservative and Unionist Party.

ED – Updated 22.5.19 to include response from Manchester City Council and further second response from Wirral Council.

23rd May 2019 was polling day in the European Parliamentary Elections. On the Wirral people voted in the North-West England area.

Eight Members of the European Parliament will be elected for the North-West England region and the voting system is the D’Hondt system (a type of proportional representation).

The Regional Returning Officer is Joanne Roney OBE, Regional Returning Officer for the North West, Town Hall Extension, Manchester, M60 2LA. For the Wirral area the (Local) Returning Officer is Eric Robinson, Wallasey Town Hall, Brighton Street, Seacombe, CH44 8ED.
