Since the fiasco where Wirral Council decided to black out from the inspection copies all details of donations to political campaigns (rather than just the home addresses of individual donors contrary to Electoral Commission guidance) I’d decided instead during an inspection (which is free) to take my own copies as it saves 20 pence a page and having to ask Wirral Council to do it again after it gets done wrong the first time (which is annoying).

The Electoral Commission have confirmed today that Wirral Council issued all candidates in the twenty-two elections of a councillor to Wirral Council nomination papers that contained a flaw.

In a statement provided today The Electoral Commission wrote, “We will update the forms with the additional relevant extracts of the legislation to reflect the amendment the next time we revise them.

On Wednesday morning I carried out an unannounced inspection on the nomination papers and consents to nomination for the candidates currently standing in elections to be a councillor to Liverpool City Council.

These are open to public inspection until 2nd May 2018 during working hours on working days.
