The mood at Wallasey Town Hall was very different – with the One Stop Shop closed (with a sign that directed people to the one in Birkenhead) and even if this was taken into account there were far fewer people around than usual. Due to the need for social distancing measures, as on Monday evening the public meeting was in the Council Chamber (instead of Committee Room 1), which could have been the reason why the Council webcast didn’t go ahead as planned (which put a bit more pressure on myself – video of the entire meeting is above).

The results of the European Parliamentary Elections in the Northwest England region were announced last week and were as follows:-

Brexit Party (3 seats) – Claire Fox, Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen, David Bull
Liberal Democrats (2 seats) – Chris Davies, Jane Brophy
Labour (2 seats) – Julie Ward, Theresa Griffin
Green (1 seat) – Gina Dowding

The Conservative Party, UKIP, Change UK, English Democrat, UK EU and two independent candidates failed to win any seats in this region.

The eight elected Members of the European Parliament will take up their seats on 2nd July 2019.

This weekend saw the River Festival return over the two days of the weekend in Liverpool (as well as a much smaller River Festival on the Wirral side of the River Mersey).

Later this year (floating dates of either the 5th March 2019 or 6th March 2019 have been set) there will be a Court of Appeal hearing (estimated at 5 hours long) in London about a Wirral Council planning application decision involving three marquees at Thornton Manor in Wirral’s greenbelt.

The appeal to the Court of Appeal is from an order last year of Mr Justice Kerr ([2018] EWHC 560 (Admin)) dated 23rd March 2018 that quashed the planning permission that had been issued without conditions. This followed a hearing at the Administrative Court in Manchester on the 31st January 2018.

In an update to Was figure of 803 new homes a year in Wirral Council Cabinet report on the Local Plan calculated incorrectly? I’ve now found out more about both Wirral Council’s position and I’ve had an opportunity to read the statement that the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP made last year when the 803 figure was published.

Wirral Council state that the 803 figure was based on household projections from 2016 to 2026, rather than 2018 to 2028.
