Local councils including Wirral Council, Liverpool City Council, Knowsley Council as well as Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have cancelled many planned public meetings that were due to take place next week (week commencing 23rd March 2020) and beyond. The reason given by one is “government advice”. However at the national level both the House of Commons and House of Lords continue to sit both this week and plan to do so all the way through to the end of the month before the break for Easter.

Last Wednesday (11th March 2020) Wirral Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board met (its meetings aren’t webcast by Wirral Council). As Leader of the Council Cllr Pat Hackett was absent, it was chaired by Cllr Chris Jones (Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health).

Since the fiasco where Wirral Council decided to black out from the inspection copies all details of donations to political campaigns (rather than just the home addresses of individual donors contrary to Electoral Commission guidance) I’d decided instead during an inspection (which is free) to take my own copies as it saves 20 pence a page and having to ask Wirral Council to do it again after it gets done wrong the first time (which is annoying).

On Monday, the Health Minister Matt Hancock using Henry VIII powers made it a criminal offence to try and leave Covid-19 (2019-nCov) quarantine (as well as making other matters a criminal offence too). Parliament will have its say on the regulations after they’ve come into force (rather than the more usual situation which is before).

As I write this (around noon on Friday) as far as I know the delayed flight to RAF Brize Norton is still en route (people on it will sent by coach to be quarantined in the staff accommodation at Arrowe Park Hospital (part of the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust).
