Standards Committee (Monday 16th April 2012) Selfishness at Wirral Council

Well, Wirral Council’s Standards Committee meet on Monday afternoon to agree a new Code of Conduct. They have a late report (item 4) on the agenda that recommends that they adopt a Code of Conduct that applies to the conduct of councillors (and independent Members).

True to Wirral Council form though, the appendix recommends at Schedule 1 that one of the “Seven Principles of Public Life (at Wirral Council)” is “Selfishness”. Yes, you read it right selfishness.

Maybe this explains a lot about the culture at Wirral Council (especially as an officer has written that report). Maybe it was a culture of selfishness that led to vulnerable adults being overcharged etc etc…. and maybe, just maybe the Standards Committee should agree selflessness as a principle…
