The planning application for a new fire station in Saughall Massie has been made to Wirral Council by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

The application number is APP/16/00985 and the description is, "A single storey two bay community fire station incorporating operational and welfare accommodation, offices and meeting space, external drill and training facilities and associated car-parking." at "land adjacent to SAUGHALL MASSIE ROAD, SAUGHALL MASSIE" .

The planning application form for this is 9 A4 pages long so I will summarise the details below. Further details are expected to be published on Wirral Council’s website in the near future.

  1. Car park area, 11 cars,
    Proposed Employee’s 10, so that leaves one free!
    Didn’t read at some date in the future, when you need to extend the building will you do so, which I’m sure they will, two bays means only two fire tenders!
    A single storey building, and isn’t this going back to my idear of two porta-cabins and a bit of tarmac to park to fire tenders on!

    • I think the 10 FTE employees are (now although this could change in the future) working in shifts of 24 hours.

      So I would guess that would be two crews of 5 (enough to crew two fire engines) there (although if there was training going on maybe more). There’s also a travel plan submitted with the planning application.

      The travel plan shows 7 car parking spaces are for staff (as they estimate only 7 of the 10 staff will arrive by car) and 4 for visitors.

      It seems to include a training tower too.

      It’s a bit more extensive than two porta cabins and a bit of tarmac!

      There are big sheds/hangars to store what looks like two fire engines in, the building itself next to that, a generator, sprinkler, bin store, somewhere for fuel, a bike store, motorcycle parking, lots of other parking, something marked at RTC on the plans (perhaps training for road traffic collisions) and of course the perimeter treatment.

      It looks like it’ll be used for training firefighters as well as for operational purposes.

  2. If I was still in Street Lighting design at Wirral Council these proposals, if approved, would land on my desk……

    …woah, scratch that. The Street Lighting design function (along with the maintenance function before it) has now been farmed out to a private sector office headquartered in Winsford, Cheshire. But the details were never made public. Just done on the quiet, overseen by a clueless councillor, whose name escapes me, feigning ‘oversight of highways’. The news eventually turned up on Facebook when somebody who knew somebody else mentioned it.

    When did the tories come in, decimate our public services and finally hand the lot over to persons with no local knowledge, no interest or motivation to serve the public and focused and driven entirely by how much they can exploit their staff and how much profit they can squeeze out by….

    …woah, scratch that too. It’s Labour – a Labour council – one whose exec members have yet to come out and publicly declare whether the council supports Jeremy Corbyn or whether it supports Owen somebody or other (although their mendacious behaviour suggests the latter – they’re just too damn spineless to get off the fence until the developing situation meshes better with their obsessive, secretive machinations).

    Yes, a labour council, behaving as tories, selling off the family silver, lock, stock and barrel to the lowest bidder whilst giving the public the impression they have no money, and at the same time paying off Ian Platt £225,000 and expensively packing Surjit Tour and get-rich-quick barrister Robin Hopkins – who still thinks all his Christmases have come at once – off to tribunal to exterminate the latest good faith public attempt to deal with their local council, who have enticed them in under false pretenses and encouraged them to engage and get involved.

    • The choice of Leader within the Labour Party is a party political matter.

      However I think you know my feelings Paul on the use of expensive barristers such as Robin Hopkins … a decision is still awaited in EA/2016/0033 in which I’m the Appellant and Wirral Council Second Respondent.

    Here I go again hijacking a topic to highlight the Wirral “Funny” Bizz Big, ISUS and Working Neighbourhoods scandal.

    I woke up this morning to hear George Galloway saying that if things go unpunished, I presume he was talking about the great Blair (witch), that it will happen again in the future.

    • I’m definitely not over 60!

      But addressing the wider point, this is a story about a planning application to Wirral Council by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, which I presume has nothing to do with Blair, Galloway, BIG, ISUS or Working Neighbourhoods.

      Indeed on the latter (working neighbourhoods), it’s greenbelt land and has nothing there!

      OK, David Ball (who’s the senior manager involved in planning matters at Wirral Council) has had involvement in this matter in the past and was involved previously in regeneration at Wirral Council at the time you’re talking about over BIG, ISUS etc. In fact he spoke at the special meeting of the Audit and Risk Management Committee.

      So just by sheer luck, I’ll point out your comment is not necessarily off topic this time.

    It shows people that you can whichever way you choose highlight an issue.

    You can’t even if you are as eloquent as “Highbrow” and have all the proven evidence in the world get anywhere when senior officers and elected members just choose to ignore and hide everything.

    This is not good for the public that they are supposedly serving they are just egomaniacs who want to stick with the team (gang) for the good of ???????

    • Well I once made a councillor (and his political party) defendants in front of a judge. only needed about 20 or so pages of A4 to prove that he and his party hadn’t done something that they should have. It was part of a wider cover up though.

      However I will admit that holding those in power to account through the courts seems to seen as a somewhat eccentric approach to take. You know principles like an independent person making a binding decision on the parties?

      As to the flaws in our criminal justice system, don’t get me started on that topic!

      Truth is though, I don’t have the spare capacity (time or resources) to deal with that many cases at the same time, plus I’m not a legal professional!
